BORATES

Boron Mineral

Boron is a hard, fragile and brittle semi metallic element (B) which has a very high melting point. Boron mineral cannot be found as a pure element in nature. Instead, crude borax exists as a mineral found associated with other impurities. Turkey has one of the largest boron reserves in the world. Boron minerals, borates and compounds are used in a wide range of application such as:

  • Agriculture as an essential nutrient for plants
  • Detergent and soaps as a pH buffer, solubility enhancer, bleaching agent and anti-bacterial agent
  • Insulation fiberglass
  • Wood preservation for controlling bacterial spread, inhibit corrosion and as flame retardant
  • Cosmetics and medicine to neutralize fatty acids and add antiseptic properties
  • Glass, magnets, fuels and adhesives
